step 1 open the installer
The button above saves Shio.dmg. Double-click it and a window opens with Shio and a shortcut to your Applications folder.
step 2 drag to applications
Drag the Shio keycap onto the Applications folder in that window. That's where macOS expects apps to live, and it keeps Shio out of your Downloads for good.
step 3 open it
Double-click Shio. The first time, macOS confirms it was downloaded from the internet — click Open. Because every build is notarized by Apple, there's no "unidentified developer" wall; just that one routine confirmation, then a terminal.

why not the app store?
A real terminal runs whatever shell and commands you ask of it, and reads the files you point it at. The Mac App Store mandates the App Sandbox, which forbids exactly that. So Shio for Mac ships the way iTerm, Ghostty, and Warp do: signed with a Developer ID, notarized by Apple, downloaded directly. You get the whole terminal, and Apple still scans every build for malware before it reaches you.
